What's the difference between Volume solutions and Scenario solutions?
Volume solutions are designed to repeat a specific workflow, over and over, giving you the ability to test all possible combinations in that workflow. For example, in Laboratory Volume the workflow is register a patient (or use an interfaced patient), order a test code, result that test code, and perform an inquiry on the accession. Using the lab volume solution, you can quickly and easily order and result one of everything.
Scenario solutions are designed to let you automate your paper test cases or your general testing guidelines. With scenario solutions, you decide the workflow. For example, in Laboratory Scenario, you could build a test case to register a female inpatient, order three tests on her, result two of the tests, cancel one of the tests, then run interims and cums.
How long does it take to set up test cases in the Scenario solutions?
If you have your test case prepared (in other words, you know the workflow you want to automate and what values you want to enter at each of the prompts in the system under test, it takes approximately 30 seconds to one minute to enter the data into the form in the STS solution.
Once you have completed your input, you will want to run the test case to ensure you haven't made any data input errors. Overall, it takes about the same amount of time for the STS solution to enter in the data as it takes a human. Once the run is complete, you will correct any errors and re-run the test if necessary.
Don’t think you have the time? Check out the Test Suites – the prepackaged test cases that are customized for your site and input into the Scenario solutions for you!
What are the Test Suites?
The Test Suites are pre-packaged test cases that are customized for your site and input into the appropriate Scenario solution for you. The Test Suites are available for Blood Bank, for General Lab and for Microbiology and give you a strong, automated basic validation that you can use over and over and together cover more than 500 unique testing conditions.
If I want to purchase the Test Suites, do I also have to purchase the Scenario solution?
Yes. The Test Suites for Blood Bank is an add-on to the Blood Bank Scenario solution; and the Test Suites for Gen Lab and the Test Suites for Micro are add-ons to the Laboratory Scenario solution. The corresponding Scenario solution is required as that is what the test cases are entered into.
How much of the General Testing Guidelines is automated by the Test Suites?
According to feedback from our Test Suites clients, approximately 85% of the Blood Bank GTG’s are covered in the Test Suites for Blood Bank. Approximately 90 – 92% of the General Lab and the Microbiology guidelines are automated in their respective Test Suites.
How long does it take to implement the Test Suites?
It usually takes 6 to 7 weeks to complete the Test Suites for Blood Bank; and 4 to 5 weeks for General Lab and/or Micro.
What happens when I purchase the Test Suites – how does the process work?
STS’s SBBs & Med Techs tailor our pre-defined test cases to your site and input them into our scenario solution for you. Our analysts all have extensive Sunquest system management experience and the blood bank team is lead by a former AABB assessor.
The STS analysts then run the test cases for you. If anything looks questionable to them based on their experience, they will contact you to review. If it is determined that maintenance changes are appropriate, the analysts will then re-run all of the testing if necessary to ensure that those maintenance changes had no unexpected consequences.
The results of the test runs are detailed reports which can include all the information on what was entered at every Sunquest prompt, the detailed test case descriptions, the functional objectives for each test case step and comprehensive screen prints. The solutions even capture the actual Sunquest reports to files for inclusion with the results.
The test result reports are then ready for your review and are part of your exceptional validation documentation.
